NEVER buy again:

This list will continue to grow as I discover new things that are easy to DIY and can save a ton of money by doing yourself at home. For all of these, you can find recipes/directions to do it yourself. Also, I'm also looking for what YOU are doing in your home for your family - post up!

BREAD - Bread, if you stick to the basics, is ridiculously easy to make and takes no effort whatsoever. While you wait for your dough to rise, you can watch TV, do laundry, play with the dog - the actual effort you put in is pretty minimal. Most recipes will yield two full loaves of bread, enough to last my husband and I a week and a half of sandwiches. We'll eat one and freeze the other.

The money saved on basic white is probably a wash (there's always two loaves for $5 somewhere at Shaw's) but if you're a frequent consumer of artisan breads than can run $5 -6 a loaf or $4 per baguette, bread making could prove to be a big money saver.

Included in the bread category:
  • Bagels
  • Rolls
  • Baguettes
